VLounge: February Read

Killa Red Pedi and Clear Pink Mani–very classic!

A few years ago I tagged three of my favorite nail bloggers and I made their dream nail polish colors come true. They witnessed a thrilling cycle of how nail polish was created, produced, and marketed. Although it took nearly a year, the most electrifying and beloved colors from the nail community were born. Since you, my devoted facebook fans, are such loveable, adorable, as well as obsessive-compulsive (and maybe at times, a little crazy) lacquered-heads, I want to give you the same experience. Here it is, your very own opportunity to be the winner and creator of RBL’s Fan’s Collection.

As you well know by now, I want creative, original colors—I don’t want to remake another brand’s discontinued color or produce enhanced duplicates. I sincerely hope to make what’s in your heart—a true dream color that haunts you because it doesn’t exist anywhere. For me, this collection will be the most exciting event in 2011.

Visualize your dream color here....

Here is how it works:

Submit your one color idea along with one picture of your inspiration; write a short, but precise paragraph describing your color (please be kind in word count, for I have to read everyone’s submission and you know I’ll be swamped!). You will have 48 hours to submit your ideas on January 13, starting at noon EST. The contest will end at noon EST on January 15th. Submissions will be e-mailed to me at rblfancollection@rescuebeauty.com. (By the way, this e-mail address will not be active until January 13th, so please don’t send early submissions.)

After I review your presentations, I will choose the five most interesting color requests and you’ll be able to vote for them on this blog. Three amazing winners will make up the new collection. I’ll start mixing colors and that’s when the fun and interesting dance will begin with each winner. We’ll go back and forth until the colors are approved. Once the colors are ready to go, the winners will get a chance to name their dream nail polish colors. That’s when we’ll start the marketing process and make the new colors available at our site!

I hope that you will take the next few weeks to get your intoxicating creative juices flowing and I hope you really let them shine… Have a blast and good luck! xxx Ji

*sigh* I can’t wait to see what myself and others come up with. This is such an amazing opportunity!

  2. Megan says:

Now my head is reeling trying to figure out exactly what color my dream polish would be… SUCH an amazing opportunity!

  3. SA says:

The problem isn’t coming up with a dream color, it’s getting it down to one perfect one I want to send.

This may be a silly question, but what type of pictures do you want sent? I guess I don’t understand how to make a picture of my dream color.

  4. Styrch says:

Oh, I have been hunting after a specific color for YEARS and I haven’t seen anyone make it the way I want it yet. Many have come close… Which makes me wonder if I should choose my second dream instead of my first!

    Thank you. :)

  5. Amber says:

OMG!!! This is so exciting! I know the EXACT color that I want. I have not seen in anywhere and I would love the opportunity to have it become a RBL color! I don’t know if I can wait until 1/13….okay..I will sit on my hands…or maybe draft my entry now and save it somewhere ;o)

  6. Nicki says:

Ooooh. I have been waiting for this since you first announced it on FB. I have my inspiration, now to pare my description back from the novel it is in danger of becoming!!

  7. KayDi-Kat says:

What if we already have a name picked out for our dream color? Of course, if you like the color concept but want to change the name given, totally understandable. :) Should we include it in our submission, or would you prefer the color to be “nameless”?

  8. Jackie S. says:

    Awesome, love it!!!

  9. Rory says:

I’ve been brainstorming my dream color since you first mentioned it! I’m so excited to see the end products of this contest!

  14. Hanah says:

Ji, this is such a great idea! I don’t have a creative inspiration in my head, but I’m still trilled to follow how it goes as an RBL fan!

  15. Marsha says:

Can’t wait to see the new polishes!

  16. carina says:

i am soo looking forward to this….very very very excited :)

  17. Candice says:

I’ve been diligently working/thinking/brainstorming on my polish submission… just had a quick question. I’ve come up with a sort of “artist’s rendering” of my polish — can I include that as an inset on my inspiration photo or would you prefer not to see anything like that? It’s nothing precise, but just a rough visualization of what’s in my head.

  18. Jane says:

Oh, you SO know what I’m going to come up with! Now to find the perfect photo to bring my vision of butterscotch camel nails to life!

  19. Jennie says:

I loved the idea of your allowing nail polish lovers to create their dream color, but I never thought I would come up with one of my own. I have! THanks so much for this opportunity!

    What a great opportunity!!!!

  22. anna says:

Will you be considering duochromes and holographics or are these off limits?

  23. Stephanie says:

thank you for such a fantastic opportunity! it happens way too often that i’ll be walking down the street, see something, and think “they should have a nail polish for that color…”

  24. Kayla says:

Just wondering, what if we don’t actually have an inspiration photo? My dream colour is just something I kind of came up with without any photographic inspiration!

  25. Sarah says:

Wow, this is awesome. I know what kind of polish I would love to see (true grey with green duo-crhome and purple or pink sparkles, kinda like how the shimmer in scrangie worked cause that was cooler than i thought possible) but at the same time, I can’t even imagine how that would work lol!

Good luck to the winners, I’m excited to see what they come up with :)

  26. I would love to see a polish that truly reflects that point as night comes in. Blue / grey duochrome (or shimmer so the base color has depth) with different micro-glitter to represent the stars – silver and blue. Not too deep blue where it looks black – the blue/grey color shown in the picture. Blues / greys are quite flattering on all skin-tones too.

  27. Elaine says:

Is this open to international fans? :)

  28. Pia says:

Just submitted my idea… I’m not sure if it’s technically makeable though – I think I just invented a new finish! :D

Thanks so much Ji for making this collection, and good luck to everyone! I can’t wait to see the winning ideas!

  29. Patty says:

Thank you for a wonderful opportunity! I hope you are not in the middle of a good book! :)

I knew exactly what I wanted, had a picture, wrote my story and off I went. Of course my first email was sent without the attachment, so my apologies for having to send it again!

I look forward to reading some of them when you have made your decision. Good luck everyone!

    • ji ji says:

Hah! This is exact reason why I have not started a new book–all the submissions will be such a great read! Can;t wait!

  30. Amy says:

I had to enter this. I’m really looking forward to seeing what other people came up with! :D

  31. Robin says:

So, so awesome Ji! I couldn’t decide which of my 2 ideas to submit and I’m second guessing myself now, but oh well, lol. This is an awesome opportunity – thank you. The whole process will be much fun for everyone!

  32. Outre says:

    Ack.

So I totally found the shimmer that makes the famed Clarins 230 so awesome… I’ve mixed a few and came close to it. I should submit…

  33. Katharine says:

    What an exciting contest!

Do we get a confirmation email to let us know that our idea was received? My internet was being a little sketchy and I want to be sure it got sent. Thanks!

  34. Rooo says:

    Just sent mine in.
(Wanted to make sure deadline was made, LOL.)

Thank you, Ji – what an amazing idea. This is so exciting.

  35. riss says:

This is so awesome of you to do! I can’t wait to see what folks come up with :)

  36. Katia says:

I have a picture of my dream polish in my head. This picture has been inside my brain for a long time but I have never seen it in a bottle of lacquer. I have seen it mostly in clothes and in fresh undisturbed snow…
I don’t have a pictureof it Ji, but I’m submitting a description of what is in my head. Hopefully you will be able to see it in your mind as you read my entry.
Best of luck with all the work ahead of you!!!!

  37. Carol Vito says:

OMG just saw it today… =(
My dream polish will have to wait!

  38. shonell says:

can you make a ‘liquid metal’ gold polish that mimics the Minx nail sheets, but doesn’t require heat to ‘melt’ the sheet onto the nail? I’m not obsessed with color, but super shine. No nail company has ever produced a liquid shine polish that comes close to the Minx nail sheets. the downside is, only professionals(thank God for my license) can view prices and make purchases on the Minx.com website. it would be an epic break through for RBL to have a polish line that hits this ultra luxe shiney finish perfectly, in a bottle instead of a complicated sheet.

    • ji ji says:

That sounds really impossible for the sheer fact that metallic streaks with brush mark! Will look into it though!

  39. Sarah says:

I can’t believe I missed sending in an entry for this!!!!!!!
Woe is me. I know my city concrete dream polish would have been awesome.
