A few weeks ago, I had an irritatingly irksome day trying to troubleshoot a bookkeeping software program with outsourced tech-support. I worked late into the night at the office. Dragging my body into a cab with sheer exhaustion, my phone lit up with a text message from my husband.
Him: All flights are cancelled due to a Typhoon warning (emoji icon: teary face).
Me: OMFG! Get out of Japan ASAP! Fly to Korea if you have to (surprise sweaty face).
Him: Trying2 change airline—might be last one out…
Me: I just googled, Typhoon is going2 the same direction as last Tsunami…ABORT!!!!
The stress and weariness of the day was completely vanished from my body and I chanted my silent prayers as my cab cruised by the city lights. Fifteen minutes later (which, felt like an eternity), my phone screen lit up again:
Him: Running2 the gate, last flight out to DC, will email you the details…(Three pink hearts)
Me: Please be safe and be careful…I love you… (5prayer hands, 7 angels and 5 hearts with kissy faces)
My husband’s business travels are intensely scheduled, it’s common for him to cover three or four different countries in a week. And we are that annoying couple—we text and stay in touch with each other throughout the day, even if we are in the same city. Do we lavishly make AT&T rich with international roaming charges? Absolutely not! We Viber instead.
My husband and I have been test-driving this APP for months, since he travels so frequently around the world that it ends up being costly to stay connected. I can receive calls and text messages from my 3G network if he is connected to Wi-Fi from Japan or anywhere around the world and vice versa. I’m no longer a slave to mandatory connections to Wi-Fi and I no longer deal with spotty, slow, delayed services like Skype.
If you have friends and family or business associates scattered around the world, without a question, you should be Viber-ing. And finally, I can rave and brag about the brilliance of an APP without sounding like a Steve Jobs cult leader (may he rest in peace). This App is for iPhone, Blackberry and Android users. Download this free APP and you can text, talk your heart out for free— world wide.
